A few weeks ago, it felt like Juventus were on the ascendancy. After out-thinking Tottenham Hotspur to reach the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals and also surging ahead in the Serie A title race, the Old Lady were in marvellous shape. Now? Things aren’t quite so positive in Turin.
The last-gasp exit to Real Madrid following an immense comeback was a major blow for their confidence. This has been surrounded with poor form in the league, with the latest result – a 1-0 last-gasp loss at home to Napoli – has seen fans questioning the team presently.
Indeed, it even has Juve legend Gianluigi Buffon out apologising to the clubs supporters. The team trudged off the pitch following the shock loss to the Naples side and the support was less than impressed by their lack of humility.
Speaking to Corielle della Sera, Buffons said that: “It’s important for us to have you here.
“You were right to come here. If we are stuck in this situation, it’s because we did something wrong. We want you to be proud of us, until the end.
“We didn’t stop to greet you against Napoli because we were too angry, we went to talk with our opponents because it is our habit to do so, win or lose.
“We didn’t stop close to the ‘Curva’ [a section of the stadium] because we were very disappointed and we didn’t realize.”
As it stands, Juventus face a trying run-in to secure yet another Italian title despite late opposition from Napoli.
